چکیده

We review a general framework of pressure effects on the structures formed by entropically driven self-assembly (for example, denaturation of proteins from their native structure and dissociation of ordered structure of the amyloid fibril occur at high pressures). In the framework, the translational entropy of water is an essential factor. Our findings are as follows: at low pressures, the structures almost minimizing the excluded volume (EV) generated for water molecules are stable. On the other hand, at high pressures, the structures possessing the largest possible water-accessible surface area together with sufficiently small EV become more stable. These characteristics are consistent with experimental

Entropically driven colloidal crystallization on patterned surfaces

We investigate the self-assembly of colloidal spheres on periodically patterned templates. The surface potentials and the surface phases are induced entropically by the presence of dissolved, nonadsorbing polymers. A rich variety of two-dimensional fluidlike and solidlike phases was observed to form on template potentials with both one- and two-dimensional symmetry. The same methodology was the...

Entropically driven self-assembly of multichannel rosette nanotubes.

Rosette nanotubes are a new class of organic nanotubes obtained through the hierarchical self-assembly of low molecular weight synthetic modules in water. Here we demonstrate that these materials can serve as scaffolds for the supramolecular synthesis of multichannel nanotubular architectures and report on the discovery of their entropy-driven self-assembly process.

Entropically driven formation of hierarchically ordered nanocomposites.

Using theoretical models, we undertake the first investigation into the rich behavior that emerges when binary particle mixtures are blended with microphase-separating copolymers. We isolate an example of coupled self-assembly in such materials, where the system undergoes a nanoscale ordering of the particles along with a phase transformation in the copolymer matrix. Furthermore, the self-assem...

Entropically patchy particles: engineering valence through shape entropy.

Patchy particles are a popular paradigm for the design and synthesis of nanoparticles and colloids for self-assembly. In "traditional" patchy particles, anisotropic interactions arising from patterned coatings, functionalized molecules, DNA, and other enthalpic means create the possibility for directional binding of particles into higher-ordered structures. Although the anisotropic geometry of ...

Effect of Temperature and Reaction Time on the Morphology and Phase Evolution of Self-assembled Cu7.2S4 Nanospheres Obtained from Nanoparticles and Nanorods Synthesized by Solvothermal Method

In this research, self-assembled copper sulfide nanospheres were synthesized by the solvothermal method and the effects of reaction parameters, including reaction time and reaction temperature on the morphology and phase evolution of copper sulfide nanostructures were investigated. For the identification of copper sulfide nanostructures, X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), f...
